OHS assisted in PTIL audit Risk Exposed Groups
OHS was asked by the Norwegian Petroleum Safety Agency (PTIL) to participate in an audit focusing on Risk Exposed Groups. OHS supported PTIL with a multi disciplinary team, consisting of Occupational Hygienists and Ergonomists/Human Factors consultants. Their specialist expertise was deployed in the field of occupational exposure for chemicals, physical work load, vibrations and noise. Risks were identified by using OHS Risk tools ChemiRisk, ErgoRisk and NoiseRisk as well as a vibration calculator and vibration data bases. By using these instruments, the companies concerned in the audit could easily obtain a clear view on issues for improvement of working conditions.
The audit was carried out on the production vessel Jotun A and Statoil’s onshore installation at Kollsnes. Main results showed: - World wide lack of knowledge about long term health effects, or how to assess physical work load connected to Rope Access Technique (RAT). It seems very likely that physical work load exceeds limits when performing RAT.
- Insulation workers at onshore installation have increased risk for musculoskeletal complaints, due to poor work station design and inadequate job rotation.
